How does the pelvic floor chair work?

A coil in the seat sends electromagnetic pulses to the nerves that control your pelvic floor. The muscles respond with repeated contractions in steady cycles while you sit. Sessions are booked as a series over several weeks, because muscles respond to regular, repeated work.

What happens during a session?

  1. Fill in your health form before your first visit. We review it before you sit down.
  2. Sit back on the chair, fully clothed, in a private room with the door closed.
  3. We start the chair, set the intensity with you, then step out, so you have the room to yourself.
  4. You feel rhythmic tightening and tingling through the pelvic area. It is unusual, but it should never hurt. If you’d like the intensity changed, or feel any pain or dizziness, press the call button and we’ll come straight back.
  5. Rest, read, or make quiet dhikr until the 30 minutes are up.
  6. Stand up and carry on with your day.

Why do people book the pelvic floor chair?

Your pelvic floor is a sling of muscles that supports the bladder, bowel and reproductive organs. Pregnancy, childbirth, ageing and heavy lifting can weaken it over time. The chair works these muscles for you, so you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Who it may suit

  • Mothers after childbirth, once postnatal bleeding has ended and a doctor or midwife has given clearance
  • Anyone who wants a stronger, more responsive pelvic floor as part of everyday wellness
  • Women in perimenopause and beyond, as pelvic muscles change with age
  • Anyone seeking more comfort and confidence, including in marital intimacy
  • Men looking for pelvic floor support

The chair is not a substitute for medical care. If symptoms are new, painful or getting worse, please see your doctor first.

What happens after my program?

Like any muscle, your pelvic floor needs regular work to stay strong. Once you finish your program, we recommend one maintenance chair session a month ($175).

We often suggest pairing it with cupping, depending on what suits you:

  • Dry cupping on the lower belly, below the navel
  • Hijama on the lower back, over the kidney area

Cupping is traditionally used to ease muscle tension and support circulation. It is a complementary practice: it has not been shown to change your chair results, and we check your health form before recommending hijama.

Who should not use the pelvic floor chair?

The chair is not offered during pregnancy or to anyone with an implanted device or metal implant. Every client fills in a short health form before their first session.

The chair is not offered if you

  • are pregnant or may be pregnant
  • have a pacemaker, defibrillator, neurostimulator, implanted drug pump or any implanted electronic device
  • have a copper IUD or any metal implant, such as plates, screws or a joint replacement
  • have a heart condition, epilepsy, a bleeding disorder, active cancer or a fever, or take blood thinners

Please tell us first if you

We may ask for your doctor’s clearance.

  • have had recent surgery, including a C-section
  • have an active infection, open wounds or untreated urinary symptoms
  • are currently breastfeeding, even if you won’t be nursing during the session

Sessions are not booked during your period or postnatal bleeding; we will simply move your appointment.

The pelvic floor chair is a wellness service. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, and it does not replace care from your doctor.

How do I prepare, and what happens after?

Before your session

  • Take a shower before you come in.
  • Fill in your health form before your first visit, including any implants, devices, medications, recent surgery, pregnancy or health changes.
  • Wear comfortable clothing with no metal zips, snaps, studs, belts or underwire. A loose abaya or loose trousers work well.
  • Take off any metal items, such as jewelry, and take your phone, keys and cards out of your pockets.
  • Use the restroom before you sit down.

After your session

  • Return to your normal day unless we advise otherwise.
  • Drink water and rest if you need to.
  • Mild tiredness in the pelvic muscles may occur.
  • Continue any care plan from your doctor.

“Over the years, so many people in my practice have come to me with these issues, and so many of them felt ashamed. I wanted to offer them a solution.”

Frequently asked questions about pelvic floor chair

See all questions

Do I need to undress for the pelvic floor chair?

No. You stay fully clothed for the whole session and simply sit on the chair. There is no changing, no internal treatment and no probes. Once the chair is running, we step out and the room is yours.

Does the pelvic floor chair hurt?

It shouldn't. You will feel strong tingling and tightening, which is unusual but not painful. We set the intensity with you before stepping out, and you can call us back to change it at any time.

How many pelvic floor chair sessions will I need?

Programs run 6, 8 or 12 sessions, usually 2–3 times a week. Sessions are booked as a series because muscles respond to regular, repeated work. After your program, we recommend one maintenance session a month to keep the muscles working. We suggest a plan once we have reviewed your health form.

Can I use the pelvic floor chair after giving birth?

It may be suitable once your postnatal bleeding has ended and your doctor or midwife has cleared you. After a C-section, wait for your surgeon's clearance. If you're breastfeeding, tell us on your health form.

Can the pelvic floor chair help with marital intimacy?

The pelvic floor muscles play a part in comfort and sensation during intimacy, so some clients choose pelvic floor support for this reason. Experiences vary from person to person.

Is the pelvic floor chair FDA-approved?

No. The chair is offered as a wellness service, not a medical treatment, and it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. Every client fills in a health form first so we can check it suits them.

Do you offer the pelvic floor chair for men?

Yes. Men are welcome at our Richardson studio. We start the chair and step out, so every client has the private room to themselves.

Do I need a doctor's referral for the pelvic floor chair?

No referral is needed to book. We may ask for your doctor's clearance if you are postpartum, have had recent surgery, or have a health condition.
